Youth Choir

St. John the Evangelist offers Youth Choir for students in grades 3 through 8. The choir sings weekly for all-school liturgies and about once a month (usually at the 10:30am Sunday Mass) at weekend masses. They also sing on Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday. The children build upon choral skills learned in school music class and they participate in the parish community in a spiritual and encouraging way. Students are prepared to participate in the Adult Choir once they reach high school age.

Youth Hand Bell Choir

St. John the Evangelist offers a unique opportunity for students in grades 3 through 8 to participate in our Youth Hand Bell Choir. No prior music knowledge is needed to participate. Students develop musical skills needed to create a beautiful sound in an ensemble which is rare at this age level. Rehearsals are held weekly and the group plays approximately once a month at a weekend liturgy as well as occasionally at all-school liturgies. No other parish in the area offers this opportunity for youth. Students are prepared to participate in the Adult Hand Bell Choir once they reach high school age.

Forensics

Students in grades 6, 7, and 8 may choose to participate in our forensics club. At this weekly after school activity , students prepare and rehearse public speaking pieces in a wide variety of genres. They then participate in meets with students from other area schools. The goal of our forensics club is to provide students with the opportunity to gain poise and comfort in a variety of public speaking situations, preparing them for success in high school and beyond.

Cub Scouting & Boy Scouting

Cub Scouting is a program for boys and girls and their families that emphasizes learning, group activities, mental skills, and independence. Children are motivated by the scout motto, "Do Your Best". Cub Scouting is open to boys and girls in the first through fifth grade. Activities include den meetings, monthly pack meetings, summer camps, Safe Halloween, a Christmas party, the Blue and Gold Dinner, Pinewood Derby, and scouting nights with the Milwaukee Bucks, Admirals, and Wave. There are also several service projects including Scouting for Food, flag placement on Memorial Day, and festival cleanup.

Cub Scouts in 5th grade cross over to Boy Scouts in February. The Boy Scout Troop is sponsored by King of Glory Church across the street from St. John's. While most boys come into Boy Scouts from Cub Scouts, that is not a prerequisite.

Girl Scouting

Girl Scouting is active at St. John the Evangelist! The girls enjoy being together while they work on badges, make art projects, and participate in field trips-all while they expand their horizons and learn about the world of possibilities waiting for them!

Chess Club

As Benjamin Franklin put it, "Several very valuable qualities of the mind are to be acquired and strengthened" by the game of chess. The chess club meets twice a month after school. Students are given instruction as needed, and are invited to participate in local tournaments throughout the school year.

Junior Lectors & Junior Prayer Chain

Our junior lector program teaches our children the skills necessary to proclaim the Word of God.  We also offer an after school junior prayer chain, where students may gather once a week after school to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet for special intentions.
