ExtraCurricular Activities
WELLNESS WARRIORS
Meetings are held after school twice per month under the direction of our P.E. teacher, Mrs. Pitcher. They promote health and wellness by planning several all-school activities including our popular Run the Halls event. Past events have included an obstacle course and a Halloween Spooky Scavenger Hunt and Tower of Terror Gym Activity.
JUNIOR LECTORS AND ACOLYTES
Our junior lector program available to students in grades 5-8, teaches students the skills necessary to proclaim the Word of God during our all-school weekly masses. Acolytes serve for school masses as well as week-end masses. Acolyte training is available to students in grades 4-8.
CHESS CLUB
As Benjamin Franklin put it, "Several very valuable qualities of the mind are to be acquired and strengthened" by the game of chess. The chess club meets twice a month after school. Students are given instruction as needed, and are invited to participate in local tournaments throughout the school year.
SCOUTS
Cub Scouts is a program for boys and girls in grades 1-5 and their families, that emphasizes learning, group activities, mental skills, motivated by the scout motto, "Do Your Best." Activities include den meetings, monthly pack meetings, summer camps and much more! There are also several service projects including Scouting for Food, flag placement on Memorial Day, and festival cleanup.
NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY
Our school chapter of this nationally recognized organization provides our students with opportunities to not only be recognized for academic excellence, but to also provide servant leadership to our school and the greater surrounding community.
SCHOENSTATT GIRLS
Girls in grades 2-8 (divided into 2 age groups) meet after school once a month. Through meetings guided by Schoenstatt spirituality, girls strive to become apostles of Jesus after the example of Mary, the first and greatest apostle. As Marian Apostles, the girls want to lead all people to Jesus and Mary through their thoughts, words, and actions. Meetings include prayer, discussion, activities, games, and crafts.
YOUTH HAND BELL CHOIR
A unique opportunity for students in grades 3-8 is participation in our Youth Hand Bell Choir. No prior music knowledge is needed to participate. Students develop musical skills needed to create a beautiful sound in an ensemble which is rare at this age level. Rehearsals are held weekly. The group plays a few times a year at weekend mass, and at some all-school masses. Students are prepared for Adult Hand Bell Choir once they reach high school age.
YOUTH CHOIR
SJE offers Youth Choir for students in grades 4-8. The choir sings weekly for all-school liturgies and about once a month at weekend masses (usually the 10:30am mass). They also sing on Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday. The children build upon choral skills learned in school music class and they participate in the parish community in a spiritual and encouraging way. Students are prepared to participate in the Adult Choir once they reach high school age.
FORENSICS
Open to grades 6-8, students prepare and rehearse public speaking pieces in a wide variety of genres. They then participate in meets with students from other area schools. The goal of our forensics club is to provide students with the opportunity to gain poise and comfort in a variety of public speaking situations, preparing them for success in high school and beyond.
