The Church and
world need the faith, gifts, energy, and fresh ideas of young people. . . . We
must ensure that young people are well equipped for their special mission in the
world.
-Renewing the
Vision: A Framework
for Catholic Youth Ministry
Here at St. John
the Evangelist Parish, we provide a comprehensive ministry with adolescents
involves several components: advocacy, catechesis, community life,
evangelization, justice and service, leadership development, pastoral care, and
prayer and worship. These provide a framework for the Catholic community to
respond to the needs of young people and to involve young people in
sharing their unique gifts.
Through our
Religious Ed Program, we offer the youth of our parish opportunities to play an
active role in living out their faith.
This High School
Theology Curriculum is intended to guide our important ministry with High School
Students in both Catholic High Schools and parish faith formation programs.
The intent is to
identify key religious education concepts high school age youth and to
articulate these in competence-based language. We cover content in the areas of
scripture, creed, justice & morality, liturgy and prayer, and the history of our
church; and we encourage and challenge the youth of our parish to an enduring
understanding, working knowledge, and reflective awareness of the teachings of
the Church and Jesus' mandate to share the "Good News" of the Gospel.
It is our hope
that by being active members in our parish, the young adults of our parish share
the treasure of our faith on their journey of being disciples of Christ.
